E20 Petrol coverage gets a boost as Zuno introduces an add-on designed to cover potential ethanol-blend-related damage to cars.

New Delhi – E20 Petrol: Zuno General Insurance announced on September 9 the launch of “Fuel Guard,” which the company describes as the insurance industry’s first product covering damage to cars caused by the use of blended fuel.

The product is structured as a motor insurance add-on. According to the company, it provides “an additional layer of protection for specified engine and fuel-system components against accidental and unforeseen physical damage caused directly by manufacturer-approved blended fuel.”

The launch comes as the debate over the mandatory use of ethanol-blended fuel in India continues. The government has acknowledged a reduction in vehicle mileage linked to the blending mandate, and vehicle owners have separately raised concerns about engine damage attributed to blended fuel.

E20 Petrol: Eligibility conditions tied to vehicle age and maintenance compliance

Zuno said the add-on is available for cars purchased after April 2023, provided the vehicle manufacturer has approved the specific blended fuel in use. Coverage is further conditional on the policyholder maintaining the manufacturer’s prescribed maintenance schedule and not carrying out any unauthorised modifications to the engine or fuel system.

Fuel Guard can be purchased alongside applicable private car package policies, standalone own-damage policies, and bundled policies, including three-year long-term policies, the company said.

E20 Petrol: Company cites shifting mobility landscape as rationale for the product

In a statement, Zuno General Insurance said the product is intended to support consumers navigating a “changing mobility and fuel landscape, while giving them greater choice, reassurance and relevant protection.”

Shanai Ghosh, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Zuno General Insurance, said: “As the mobility ecosystem evolves, insurance protection needs to evolve with it. We continuously look at how changes in mobility are shaping customer expectations and ownership experience.”
