Tirupati Balaji Temple Board Approves ₹2 Lakh Life Insurance Cover for Pilgrims

Tirupati Balaji Temple has approved a ₹2 lakh life insurance cover for pilgrims visiting the shrine. The move aims to provide added financial protection to devotees during their pilgrimage.
Tirupati Balaji Temple: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board on September 9 approved a ₹2 lakh life insurance cover for pilgrims who die of natural causes in Tirumala, in what officials described as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. The compensation will be paid to the deceased pilgrim’s family.
The decision was taken ahead of the annual Salakatla Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara, as the temple administration prepares for a substantial rise in pilgrim footfall. The Board, chaired by Chairman B.R. Naidu and attended by Executive Officer M. Ravichandra, cleared the proposal along with a separate insurance enhancement for accident-related deaths.

Tirupati Balaji Temple: Accident Insurance Cover Raised From ₹3 Lakh to ₹10 Lakh
Alongside the new natural-death cover, the Board approved a significant increase in accident insurance for families of devotees who die in accidents within Tirumala, raising the compensation from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh. The pilgrim insurance initiative extends the TTD’s welfare framework to cover the financial security of families in the event of loss during a visit to the hill shrine.
The Board also extended Employee Health Facility (EHF) benefits to retired CPS/NPS pensioners and their families, bringing them on par with OPS pensioners, and approved salary enhancements for 48 SLPMC employees across various TTD departments.
To support sanitation and crowd management during the Brahmotsavams, the Board sanctioned ₹1.60 crore over three years toward transport charges for additional sanitation personnel. It also forwarded proposals to the state government for 400 additional outsourcing posts to augment laddu production during peak demand.
Tirupati Balaji Temple: Biogas Plant and Brahmotsavams Preparations
In a separate resolution, the Board approved an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) proposal to set up a biogas plant using food waste generated at Annaprasadam centres, canteens and hotels within Tirumala. Operation and maintenance of the facility will be handled by GPS Renewables at a cost of ₹2.80 crore.
For the Brahmotsavams, scheduled from September 15 to 23, the TTD has arranged a buffer stock of 10 lakh laddus a day. Garuda Seva is projected to draw 15–20% more devotees than last year, with arrangements in place to serve annaprasadam to 9.30 lakh devotees, compared to 6.13 lakh in the previous edition.
The festivities begin with Ankurarpanam on September 14, followed by Dwajarohanam on September 15. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to offer silk garments to Lord Venkateswara on September 15 and participate in the Pedda Sesha Vahana Seva.
Among other resolutions, the Board approved gold-plating works at temples in Narayanavanam and Chennai, and extended for three years the lease of the TTD building housing the Telugu and Sanskrit academies in Tirupati.
