Gold Price Today highlights the rising value of household gold. Does your insurance policy protect your jewellery against theft or loss?

Gold Price Today is nearing ₹1.42 lakh per 10 grams. Find out why insuring your valuable jewellery matters.
NEW DELHI – The gold price today in India is around ₹1.42 lakh per 10 grams for 24-carat, and the 22K gold rate is near ₹1.31 lakh, on Saturday, 31 October 2026. With the gold rate today this high, the jewellery sitting in homes and bank lockers is worth far more than it was a few years ago. This report covers the gold price today, what is moving the market, and how jewellery insurance works.
For most Indian families, gold is both a tradition and a financial safety net, held as wedding jewellery, heirlooms and savings. Yet very few households opt for gold jewellery insurance in India. A single theft, fire or lost piece can wipe out years of savings, and the higher gold climbs, the bigger that exposure becomes. Tracking the daily gold rate and understanding the jewellery insurance policy that protects it go hand in hand.
Gold Price Today in India: 24K and 22K Gold Rate Across Cities
One tracker puts the 24K gold rate at about ₹1,42,450 per 10 grams today, with the 22K gold rate at about ₹1,31,140 and 18K at roughly ₹1,07,375 for the same weight. City rates are close to this. The gold rate today in Mumbai is about ₹1,41,842 for 24K and ₹1,30,580 for 22K, Hyderabad is at about ₹1,41,954 for 24K, and Bengaluru is near ₹1,42,198 for 24K. Not every tracker agrees, though.
A futures-linked tracker shows the 24K gold price at about ₹1,38,419 per 10 grams, down from a previous close of ₹1,43,201, and another retail tracker lists it at ₹1,36,500. The gap comes from the data source, the time of update and whether local premiums are included, so buyers should confirm the final gold rate with their jeweller.

The wider trend in the gold price today is a cooling market. At the start of October, 24K gold was around ₹1,49,240 per 10 grams, which makes today’s level roughly 4 to 5 per cent lower in a month. It is also well below the peak of the year, as 24K touched about ₹1,64,510 on 4 March. Reports through October pointed to a firm US dollar and global cues keeping a lid on the gold price in India, while international spot gold was trading near $4,150 to $4,160 per ounce around Dussehra. Festive and wedding-season demand has kept buyers active on every dip.
Buyers should also remember that the headline gold rate is not the price on the invoice. GST of 3 per cent, making charges and city-specific premiums are added on top of the base rate. On 10 grams of 22K gold at today’s base rate, the GST alone comes to roughly ₹3,900, before making charges.
Gold Price Today: How Jewellery Insurance Works: Gold Jewellery Insurance in India Explained
Gold Price Today: Many Indian households hold large amounts of gold but never buy jewellery insurance. India holds an estimated 25,000 tonnes of gold, yet jewellery insurance is still little known as a standalone product. The idea is simple. You declare your jewellery and its value to an insurer, pay an annual premium, and receive compensation if the items are stolen, lost or damaged in a covered event. There are two routes.
Jewellery kept at home is usually covered under a home insurance policy, and a standalone jewellery insurance policy is the other option. The distinction matters. Basic home insurance plans often protect only the structure of the house, and home insurance jewellery cover is generally available only under comprehensive plans. A dedicated plan usually gives better terms, because a home policy may treat jewellery only as “contents” with low sub-limits, while a dedicated plan lets you define the insured value and get all-risk cover.
A bank locker does not remove the need for cover. Lockers protect against casual theft, but they do not guarantee compensation for the contents, which is why many jewellery insurance policies explicitly extend to jewellery kept in a locker. Standalone gold jewellery insurance also tends to cover wider situations.
Typical cover includes theft or burglary, whether from home, a locker or while the jewellery is being worn, along with loss from fire or explosion. Some insurers also extend cover across the country. One insurer covers jewellery for loss or damage anywhere in India and allows newly bought pieces to be added within 30 days.
Gold Price Today: Jewellery Insurance Premium, Exclusions and Claim Process
The jewellery insurance premium is modest compared with the value protected. It typically runs between 0.3 and 1 per cent of the insured value per year, depending on the insurer, the coverage type and the items included. On 100 grams of 22K jewellery valued at today’s base rate, about ₹13.1 lakh, that works out to roughly ₹3,900 to ₹13,100 a year. Where the jewellery is stored, whether it is worn, and whether transit cover is included also affect the price.
Exclusions decide whether a jewellery insurance claim is paid, so read the policy document closely. Jewellery that is not declared in the policy is not covered. Some insurers exclude bullion, loose stones that are not part of a piece of jewellery, and jewellery carried as accompanied baggage. Losses during war, terrorist attacks or riots are also commonly excluded.
Routine wear and tear, and damage during cleaning, polishing or repair, are typically left out as well. Under-insuring is another trap. If the sum insured is much lower than the market value, the payout can be reduced proportionately. With the gold rate well above where it was a few years ago, old valuations can leave families short, so the sum insured should be revisited regularly.
Paperwork is the other half of the claim process. Insurers generally require a valuation certificate for jewellery above a certain individual value, and one insurer’s guidance suggests getting a certificate for items worth more than ₹2 to 3 lakh.
When a loss happens, notify the insurer immediately, since delay can affect the decision, and keep the policy document, the valuation certificate and, for theft or burglary, a copy of the FIR ready. Photographs, purchase bills and hallmark certificates strengthen a claim further. With the gold price today swinging by thousands of rupees in a week, buyers and owners alike are better off treating jewellery insurance as part of owning gold, not an afterthought.
