Yogi Adityanath: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on September 14 announced a ₹5 lakh cashless medical insurance facility for lawyers practising in the state, alongside a steep increase in financial assistance available to advocates’ families under the state’s lawyers’ welfare fund.
Speaking at a function organised by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association in Prayagraj, Adityanath said the payout under the welfare fund has been raised from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, while the age limit for financial assistance to families of deceased advocates has been extended from 60 to 70 years.
The announcements were made as the chief minister handed over keys to a newly constructed lawyers’ chambers building and a multi-level parking facility to HCBA president Rakesh Pande.
Yogi Adityanath: Fee Hike and Infrastructure Push for Government Counsel
Adityanath said fees paid to government lawyers in Uttar Pradesh have been increased by more than 50 percent, and that state counsel at the Allahabad High Court will be equipped with 400 tablets to support their work.
The newly inaugurated chamber-and-parking complex, built to accommodate more than 10,000 lawyers, cost approximately ₹700 crore, according to the chief minister. He added that the state government would extend support for basic amenities within the chambers once a formal proposal is received from the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court.

Adityanath also pointed to progress on integrated court complexes coming up in 10 districts, crediting Chief Justice Arun Bhansali for pushing the initiative forward. He noted that prior to 2017, district courts in as many as 10 districts were functioning out of rented premises, with many housed in dilapidated or temporary structures.
Yogi Adityanath: Technology, Policing Reforms Linked to Rising Conviction Rates
The chief minister linked improvements in conviction rates to greater use of technology, modernised court infrastructure, and stronger coordination between police and prosecution departments. He said measures have been put in place to ensure timely filing of charge sheets, and that the digitisation of court documents has been accelerated.
On policing, Adityanath said around 45 to 50 percent of police posts in the state were vacant before 2017. He said the state’s training capacity for police personnel stood at 3,000 per year at the time recruitment drives began, and has since risen to 60,000 annually.
Turning to the legal profession’s future, Adityanath said lawyers need to prepare for emerging areas of practice, listing cybercrime, artificial intelligence, data privacy, e-commerce, fintech, intellectual property and climate litigation among the fields likely to gain prominence.
Speaking on the functioning of democratic institutions, Adityanath said the legislature, executive and judiciary each operate within their own defined frameworks, but added that stronger coordination and dialogue between them contributes to a more mature and resilient democracy.
The chief minister also referenced the historical role of lawyers in India’s freedom movement, naming Mahatma Gandhi, Moti Lal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B R Ambedkar and Madan Mohan Malviya. He said the state’s under-construction National Law University in Prayagraj is being named after former President Rajendra Prasad, who he noted used to stay in the city during the Kumbh and Magh Mela.
Chief Justice Arun Bhansali said the new building would give lawyers a proper working environment, while Justice Arindam Sinha commended the state government’s contribution to the welfare and growth of the Bar. HCBA president Rakesh Pande thanked the chief minister for the building handover and for the ongoing allotment of chambers.
Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh, UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, along with judges and lawyers of the Allahabad High Court, attended the function.
