Insurance Gets Cheaper in India: Property, D&O and Cyber Rates All Fall in 2026, Says Marsh
Marsh latest assessment points to easing rates across key commercial insurance segments in India, offering businesses potential relief on property, D&O and cyber coverage costs.

Marsh reports a decline in insurance rates across India in 2026, with property, directors and officers (D&O), and cyber insurance all becoming cheaper.
NEW DELHI – Commercial insurance rates in India continued to decline through the first three quarters of 2026. Strong insurer capacity and increased market competition created more favourable conditions for businesses across major lines of insurance, according to Marsh’s Global Insurance Market Index.
Marsh (NYSE: MRSH), the global insurance broker and risk advisor, said property, financial and professional, and cyber insurance rates all fell in India during 2026. The country recorded some of the largest rate reductions across the India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) region.
Marsh: Property insurance rates decline for fourth consecutive quarter
Property insurance rates in India declined for the fourth consecutive quarter. Marsh attributed this to increased capacity and insurer competition, which continue to create more favourable conditions for buyers.
In the first quarter, some Indian clients saw property rate decreases of up to 45%, although reductions were typically lower. The IMEA average decrease in the same period was 10%.

Competition strengthened as the year progressed, Marsh said, supported by ample insurer capacity and the removal of tariffs in India. These conditions increased competition among insurers for well-managed risks. They also gave businesses greater negotiating leverage on pricing, coverage, limits and policy terms.
Marsh: Financial and professional lines see higher insurer appetite
Rates for financial and professional lines also declined in India for the fourth consecutive quarter, supported by strong insurer appetite and available capacity.
In the first quarter, directors’ and officers’ (D&O) liability rates in India fell by as much as 20%. Professional indemnity rates also recorded reductions.
Marsh said sustained competition across these lines is giving businesses the opportunity to reassess limits, deductibles and coverage structures, rather than focusing solely on premium reductions.
Cyber insurance rates fall for twelfth consecutive quarter
Cyber insurance rates declined for the twelfth consecutive quarter across IMEA, reflecting continued competition and increased insurer capacity. India recorded the steepest cyber rate decreases in the region during the third quarter. The IMEA average declined 10%.
Marsh noted that the cyber risk environment continues to evolve, citing increasing digital dependence, emerging technologies and the changing nature of cyber threats. It said businesses can use current market conditions to strengthen protection and ensure coverage keeps pace with their changing exposures.
Marsh recommends reviewing insurance programmes
Marsh said that while declining rates are reducing insurance costs for many organisations, the broader significance of the current market is the increased choice available to buyers. Greater capacity and competition allow businesses to consider changes to coverage, limits, deductibles and policy terms. They can also reassess how their insurance programmes respond to emerging and interconnected risks.
With geopolitical uncertainty, cyber threats, supply chain disruption and natural catastrophe exposures continuing to evolve, Marsh recommends that businesses use current market conditions to review the resilience of their insurance programmes. The aim is to be positioned for a potential change in the insurance cycle.
