Indiramma Insurance Scheme is set to launch on November 19, offering health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh to every eligible family in Telangana.

NEW DELHI, Indiramma Insurance Scheme: Telangana Cabinet has set November 19 as the launch date for the Indiramma Family Insurance Scheme, which gives each eligible household a Rs 5 lakh life insurance cover. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will start the programme in Siddipet on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He will also kick off the distribution of Indiramma sarees at the same event.

Indiramma Insurance Scheme: Rs 5 Lakh Cover for Crores of Families, Premium Paid by the State

The scheme, formally called the Indiramma Kutumba Jeevitha Bima Pathakam, protects a family from financial collapse if its main earner dies. The cover applies to the primary earning member or head of the household. Official figures put the number of beneficiary families at about 1.15 crore.

The state will pay the entire premium, so families do not contribute anything. The government has set aside roughly Rs 4,000 crore for this. Coverage is universal and not tied to income. Any family that holds a ration card or has been enumerated in the government’s household survey qualifies, whatever its economic category.

Enrolment will be a door-to-door exercise. From November 20 to 30, Indiramma Committees in every village will visit each household to collect applications. Tahsildars and Gram Panchayat secretaries will receive and process them, so families will not have to travel to government offices to sign up.

Information and Public Relations Minister P Srinivasa Reddy said after the Cabinet meeting that the scheme will extend to every citizen of the state and that every family will be covered by life insurance of Rs 5 lakh.

The Cabinet also took up the damaged Kaleshwaram barrages. It approved a rehabilitation plan for the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, based on the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority and an expert committee. Ministers reviewed the present condition of the structures and the reasons water cannot currently be lifted from them. To make the upcoming Global Summit a success, every minister has been given specific responsibilities so that arrangements are finished on time.

The insurance launch comes alongside the Indiramma sarees, another welfare initiative linked to the same anniversary. The government hopes the two programmes will reach a large number of poor and middle-income households across the state.
